Taking a self defense course is just plain old smart. I have been teaching these courses for over twenty years and found it very beneficial to its participants. Over and over, people come back and tell me how they used the information and techniques we taught; a young lady who avoided a confrontation by her confident stance, a middle aged woman who kept her car doors locked while an assailant tried to attack her and called 911, and the stories go on.
When I first began teaching these classes, I wasn’t sure that people would remember what to do during an altercation. I still believe that studying Martial Arts on a long term basis is the best way to improve your odds for a successful outcome during a verbal or physical attach. However, I was pleasantly surprised. People remember the simple things we teach: avoidance, confidence, how to think like an attacker, and heightened awareness. People even remember simple grappling techniques. Beth Bielat

Over and over again, the benefits of tai chi and meditation have been proven through, both, medical testing and anecdotal tales. Recently, Dr. Berman spoke through our Medical Center Lecture Series and confirmed the many benefits of alternative medicines including acupuncture, massage, tai chi and chi kung, meditation and breathing techniques.
I, too, am a believer in tai chi, meditation, and breathing techniques, along with mental and spiritual attitude (and altitude), eating “clean” and healthy, and getting lots of physical activity throughout one’s lifetime. I love the way Tai Chi and meditation make me feel and I know these practices can help many of our members here at Ocean Reef.
